EE233: Fiber Optics and Integrated Optics
Concepts and analysis of optical wave propagation in optical fibers and waveguides. Topics include geometrical optics description and electromagnetic theory of slab waveguides; modes, dispersion, and birefringence in optical fibers; mode coupling and gratings in fibers; wavelength-division multiplexing; nonlinear optics in fibers and solitons; semiconductor optical amplifiers and Er doped fiber amplifiers. Prerequisite(s): courses 135 and 145.5 credits
