Bioinformatics: Models and Algorithms

This is a required course for bioinformatics students---both undergraduate and graduate students.

Catalog Description

An introduction to bioinformatics stochastic modeling and algorithms, including Markov chains, hidden Markov models, and dynamic programming. The emphasis is on DNA and protein sequence alignment and analysis.

Prerequisites

  • CMPS 12B or 13H (programming)
  • CMPE 107 or MATH 131A (statistics)
  • BIOL 20A or BIOL 21A (cell and molecular biology)
  • CHEM 108 A/L or CHEM 112 A/L (Organic chemistry)

Corequisites

  • BIOC 100A (biochemistry) [may be taken earlier or concurrently]
