Course description: This course is an introduction to the principles of relational database systems. This course will cover foundational topics such as relational algebra, relational calculus, SQL, conjunctive queries, the homomorphism theorem, recursive queries and Datalog, database dependencies, and the chase procedure. This course will also cover, as time permits, advanced topics on large-scale data integration, such as schema matching, data exchange, data cleaning, and consistent query answering over inconsistent databases.
